The Japan and the European Union Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) has come into effect

11.3.2019

Thank you very much for using our international TA-Q-BIN service.

As you may be aware, the Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) between Japan and the European Union came into effect on February 1st and import tariffs on some items to Japan have been eliminated.

We have begun trial operations of the EPA taxation procedures with Japanese Customs. Following this, our international TA-Q-BIN service will continue as described below.

  • If the declared value (including shipping fee) of your package exceeds 200,000 JPY:

We are unable to apply for EPA taxation rates for our international TA-Q-BIN service due to regulations. Please contact your local branch for other methods of shipment (e.g. International Air/Ocean Cargo Service).
We can ship using ordinary taxation procedures with our international TA-Q-BIN service when the declared value exceeds 200,000 JPY.

  • If the declared value (including shipping fee) of your package is less than 200,000 yen:

1. Goods to be imported for sale:

If there is a statement of origin on the invoice from the manufacturer/exporter (with the company letterhead), the tax rate according to EPA will be applied based on the place of origin.

If the invoice does not come from the manufacturer/exporter (with the company letterhead) and you wish to apply the EPA tax rate, fill in the origin of the product on the invoice and deliver the package to our branch. Please state that you wish to ship according to EPA taxation rates to our staff and they will then confirm the stated origin on the invoice with you.

After receiving this confirmation, we will carry out the shipment procedure as originally stated, and the shipment will be subject to the terms of the EPA. If there is no stated intention to send via EPA terms, or if there is no description of the place of origin in the invoice, it will be subject to normal taxation.

2. Goods to be imported as a gift:

If you wish to ship according to the EPA tax rate, please put the origin of the product on the invoice and inform the staff at the branch. Our staff will then confirm the stated origin on the invoice with you

After receiving this confirmation, we will carry out the shipment procedure as originally stated, and the shipment will be subject to the terms of the EPA. If there is no stated intention to send via EPA terms, or if there is no description of the place of origin in the invoice, it will be subject to normal taxation.

3. Goods purchased online mail order:

Ordinary taxation procedures will apply.

Thank you for your understanding.
